Marcus Elieser Bloch (1723-1799) was a German-Jewish physician and naturalist. He is considered to be one of the most important ichthyologists of the 18^th century and is best known for his beautifully illustrated 12 volume, Allegemeine Naturgeschichte der Fische, published between 1782 and 1795.
