Marcus Elieser Bloch (1723-1799) was a German-Jewish physician and naturalist. He is considered to be one of the most important ichthyologists of the 18th century and is best known for his beautifully illustrated 12 volume, Allegemeine Naturgeschichte der Fische, published between 1782 and 1795.
